Social Media Conduct

The purpose of Rooted in Rights’ social media pages is to facilitate on-going dialogue on disability rights issues. Rooted in Rights maintains an official presence on four social media sites: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Each of these social networking platforms has its own terms of use and community standards.

Rooted in Rights welcomes and encourages users to engage in conversations on our social media pages. However, we also expect that comments will be productive and respectful.

Comments posted to Rooted in Rights’ social media pages represent the opinions of the individual user and do not necessarily reflect the views, positions, or policies of Rooted in Rights.

Rooted in Rights may remove content that it considers to be inconsistent, inappropriate, and undermines our mission, values, and ethics, as stated in this policy.

As you engage, be mindful of the following:

  • Be respectful.
We welcome diverse perspectives, opinions, and ideas. If you disagree with another user’s opinion, keep your comments respectful. Do not post content that could cause physical or emotional harm, like bullying, threatening, or harassing other users. Do not post personally identifiable information (addresses, phone numbers) that could compromise the safety and security of others. Offensive language targeted toward a specific group of people, including but not limited to race, sex, gender, religion, national origin, age, or disability will not be tolerated.
  • Stay on topic.
Irrelevant or self-serving content is disruptive to the purposes of Rooted in Rights’ social media pages. Spam, promotion of commercial services or products, and solicitations for donations may be removed.
  • Observe laws.
Do not post content that infringes on the rights of any third party, including intellectual property and privacy rights. Do not promote illegal activity.
  • Avoid sharing misinformation.
Do not post inaccurate or misleading information, including unsolicited and/or unverified medical or legal advice and unsupported accusations.
  • Avoid promoting or opposing political organizations, campaigns, and candidates.
Though we encourage political activism, Rooted in Rights is a non-partisan organization.

Repeated violations of the Rooted in Rights comment policy may result in the author being blocked from Rooted in Rights’ social media profiles.

While our staff strive to actively monitor Rooted in Rights’ social media pages, we may not see or address a problematic comment right away. If a comment that appears to violate any aspect of this policy that has not been addressed within one business day (not including holidays), please send us a direct message or email info@rootedinrights.org. Rooted in Rights reserves the right to modify this policy at any time. Thank you for taking the time to read our comment policy. We hope you’ll check back with us often for updates and information!
