Four masked people of color discuss books in an art-filled bookstore. On the left, a Black non-binary woman has everyone’s attention, pointing out a passage from the book they’re holding while sitting in a rollator with their cane between their legs. Next to them, an Indigenous woman and Latinx non-binary person share a couch. On the right, a Black non-binary pereson sits in a folding chair while holding their own book and fidget stim.

Resources for Today and Tomorrow

At Rooted in Rights, our mission is to share disability stories by and for disabled people. We share our stories to connect with disabled people who fight with us for an inclusive, accessible, equitable world.

We share our stories in the hopes that others will read them or watch them and have their perspectives changed for the better. These connections happen! Unfortunately, disconnection also occurs. Often, our stories are used against us. Vulnerabilities exploited. Honest emotions used to discredit our authority about our own lives. Lived experience dismissed or discounted. While living with a disability is not inherently brave, it just is, sharing with the public for consumption and critique is a vulnerable act.

Moving into 2025, we want to offer more opportunities to share resources that can keep us as connected, resourced, and sustained as possible. In this blog, myself, Rooted in Rights Director, Allexa Laycock,  and our Editor-In-Chief Denarii Grace share resources, media, and groups that keep us going. We share these curated resources with hope!

To continue this practice of peer support, in 2025 Rooted in Rights will put out a new call for blogs focused on resource sharing. In 2025, we’re excited to invite disabled writers to share 500 word pieces about resources they use and recommend, opportunities to connect, motivation to keep going, and warnings for what to watch out for in an increasingly volatile landscape.

We appreciate all our supporters and contributors and look forward to connecting and being in community with you all in 2025!

The resources shared below are not endorsements, but personal offerings from myself and Denarii.

  1. Hi,

Just want to say that I’ve been reading through some of the blog posts here & I’m really liking it! I love that you deliberately dedicate this website to disabled writers! As someone who is diagnosed with autism with a real possibility of also having ADHD, this site is helpful in empowering & enabling a genuine platform for many to talk about their lived experiences & their knowledge on how we can improve our situation all together.

I have an idea that I would love to submit on this site as a pitch regarding neurodiversity & I hope to try & do so in the near future!

    Best regards,

    Marc Corrales.
