Super Bowl ad spotlights how people with disabilities are using new technology

In a commercial aired during the 2014 Super Bowl, Microsoft Corporation explores how new technology is changing the lives of people with disabilities. In the description of the video, which includes depictions of a women hearing for the first time and a child using prosthetic legs to run, Microsoft states “Technology has taken us places we’ve only dreamed, empowering us to make the impossible possible. Celebrate the people using Microsoft technology to break barriers and inspire us all.”

Emily Pate is a third-year student at Seattle University interested in Strategic Communications, learning Spanish, and working with non-profits. Her work for Rooted In Rights is focused on discussing current events in the community of people with disabilities. Her experience previous to Rooted In Rights includes writing broadcasts for KBOO radio in Portland, OR, and managing a neighborhood blog in the Seattle community. In addition to work, Emily enjoys drawing, spending time with her friends and family, and backpacking.
