For advocates around the world who have been taking on the use of the “R” word, there are additional tools in the box. LifeMyWay, an Illinois group partnering with the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities, has launched a campaign to stamp out the use of the “R” word on Twitter. They claim there are 24,000 uses of word on Twitter each day. The campaign is called The Social Challenge and a video used in the campaign can be viewed below.
On March 6. 2011, in a related matter, AOL featured a home page post by a mom who decided to take on a project involving the “R” word in honor of the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign. A closed captioned version of the video below can be found here.
